GUEST - Jan Beesley

Jan is a Sussex based artist, who uses photography as her primary medium of expression.  Her aim is to create intuitive images which reflect her ongoing fascination with both the natural and built world and explore our emotional and physical connections to them.

Living between the Ashdown Forest, the South Downs and the coast, Jan draws her inspiration from the beautiful and varied character of the area.  She has lived in Sussex for most of her adult life and has strong connections with both Sussex and Kent.  Memories and echoes of childhood intensify her emotional response to the landscape.

Jan’s work leans towards the abstract, using the camera as a brush to move beyond the boundaries of conventional representation.  She enjoys the freedom of camera techniques such as intentional camera movement and multiple exposure which reveal images the eye cannot see.  Jan uses various media to present her work, often hand finishing pieces with gold and silver leaf.
