WES217, Oxidised labradorite earrings
Labradorite, sterling silver
By Camilla West
These characterful earrings feature unique, freeform labradorite gems, framed painstakingly by hand with sterling silver wire. I textured the wire using a hammer and soldered the settings for the stones into place with a blowtorch. The frames dangle from silver shapes that I've melted down and reforged from smaller pieces. The labradorites can rotate a certain distance within their frames to give even more movement to the earrings and so that they can catch the light from different angles. I oxidised the silver until it blackened to give a contrast with the labradorites and highlight the character of the earrings. I've also made a pair of earrings similar to these in 9k yellow gold (not oxidised), with labradorites that have a beautiful golden brown lustre. They are currently available: please get in touch if you'd like to find out more.
