Enamel

Anne McArdle

Anne always wanted to do something creative and has a fascination with glass, enamel in particular. She attended a short enamelling class at Sidcup AdEd Centre about 12 years ago and was soon hooked. She became a member of the Guild of Enamellers soon after and took a City & Guilds in the subject at CALAT, Norwood. In 2012 was awarded Associate Craftsman of the Guild of Enamellers.

Most of her inspiration comes from living in the beautiful Kent countryside and regular trips to the nearest coast. She loves the colours and textures that can be created with enamels and to experiment with different techniques developing her own style. Anne has a small studio at home and loves the learning and creative process – there is something to learn either by chance or deliberate every day. She loves the textures and colours in enamelling and finds it absorbing and easy to lose track of time when working on a piece.

There are many different techniques both traditional and contemporary. Anne works on copper and uses many enamelling techniques such as powder, wet process, and wet lay enamels. She also uses enamel paints and other media such as silver, silver foil, copper and other inclusions, and likes to experiment with techniques ‘just to see where it takes me’.
