Join us for a glass of fizz and a piece of cake to celebrate our Third Birthday!
We will be showing our new 'Summer Exhibition' of painting, print, photography, ceramic, glass and jewellery and welcome our new guest artist Jane Cannon to the gallery for July and August. Jane will be in the gallery between 2 - 4pm to talk about her work along with our other member artists.
Saturday 6th July 11am - 4pm 167 High Street, Tonbridge, Kent TN9 1BX
Cornwall by Jane Cannon
Guest artist : Jane Cannon
Jane was brought up on a fruit farm near Tonbridge, and it is this area of Kent that still inspires and drives her desire to paint and record the changing landscape.
Her approach is to walk and explore a chosen area with a sketch book and camera, until the very exciting moment when the subject matter for the next painting becomes apparent. Jane aims to create a sense of time and place observing the seasons, the light and weather conditions that create an ever changing atmosphere and mood in a landscape. She enjoys capturing the patches of colour illuminated by shafts of sunlight and shadows, cast by a dramatic skyscape, as well as the evidence of human hand in the patterns created by growing crops and ancient field systems.
Her preferred medium is oil paint, but she also enjoys charcoal, watercolour and chalk pastel. Jane primarily works outdoors, painting and exploring the landscape of Kent and more particularly the familiar orchards and views of the Bourne valley, near Tonbridge. “I respond deeply and almost possessively to this Kentish idyll, enjoying the wonder of a distant space in a panoramic view”.
